Our Stomper, who wishes to remain anonymous, ordered a takeaway meal from Al-Azhar Restaurant in Bukit Timah. Little did they know, their kway teow goreng had an extra, unwanted topping - a cockroach! And if that wasn't enough, they also found a strand of hair on their fried egg.
"I was horrified!" the Stomper exclaimed. "I thought it was a cockle or a prawn at first, but the shape was unmistakable. It was a roach! And to make matters worse, the restaurant's response was completely lacking in apology."
Angered by the experience, the Stomper took to social media to share their story, expressing their extreme disappointment with Al Azhar's cleanliness and hygiene standards. They paid for a meal, not a protein-rich, hair-garnished surprise!
But here's where it gets controversial... The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has been notified and is investigating the matter. In a statement, SFA emphasized the joint responsibility for food safety, stating that while they enforce regulatory measures, food operators must adhere to good hygiene practices and maintain clean premises.
"Food safety is a serious matter, and we encourage members of the public to report any concerns they may have," the SFA spokesperson added.
Al-Azhar Restaurant has been contacted for further comment, but as of now, the incident remains under investigation.
