A New Chapter in Space Exploration
Isar Aerospace is preparing for a comeback after their first Spectrum rocket launch in March 2025 ended in disappointment. But here's where it gets controversial: less than nine months later, they're back with a bang, ready to showcase their resilience and determination.
The company has announced launch opportunities from January 21st to 23rd, with a series of notices and updates building anticipation. Andøya Space, the Norwegian launch facility, has even published a temporary road closure notice, hinting at the magnitude of this event.
The Road to Redemption
In December 2025, Isar Aerospace celebrated a significant milestone by successfully completing hot fire tests for both stages of the rocket. This final hurdle cleared the path for their second attempt, a testament to their unwavering spirit.
The flight, creatively named "Onward and Upward," is set to carry payloads as part of the DLR Microlauncher Challenge, a German aerospace agency initiative to foster sovereign launch capabilities. Isar Aerospace secured €11 million in funding for this challenge, but with a catch: they must launch two sets of payloads, each with a combined mass of no more than 150 kilograms, over their first two flights.
Payloads and Partnerships
The payload manifest for this flight has undergone some adjustments since its initial announcement. While payloads from the Technical University Berlin, University of Maribor, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology remain, others have been replaced. The updated manifest now includes contributions from EnduroSat, the TU Wien Space Team, and Dcubed, showcasing a diverse range of partnerships.
