One Battle After Another is making waves this awards season and is anticipated to perform remarkably well when the Oscar nominations are announced today. This film, directed by the talented Paul Thomas Anderson—often referred to as PTA—has garnered attention for his previous works including Phantom Thread and There Will Be Blood.

PTA might personally receive nominations for writing, directing, and producing this film. Moreover, several prominent actors in the movie, such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro, are also strong contenders for acting nominations. The film’s gripping narrative revolves around a former revolutionary whose daughter is kidnapped by a white supremacist organization, adding a layer of social commentary that resonates deeply.

Will British Talent Shine at the Oscars? (Published at 13:00 GMT)

This year appears to be less favorable for British actors on the Oscar front. Cynthia Erivo (Wicked: For Good) and Emily Blunt (The Smashing Machine) were the only UK nominees at the Golden Globes, and it would certainly be surprising if either secured a spot at the Oscars as well.

The UK's best chance may lie with Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners), who recently received a supporting actress nomination at the Actor Awards (formerly SAG) and also made the Bafta longlist. In the horror film Sinners, Mosaku plays Annie, love interest to Michael B. Jordan's character Smoke, who is striving to establish a blues club alongside his twin brother in 1930s Mississippi.

However, should no British actors receive nominations, it would mark the first year since 1986 without representation in the acting categories.

On the brighter side, Irish actors are enjoying a stronger presence this year, largely thanks to the film Hamnet, with Jessie Buckley favored to win best actress and Paul Mescal expected to contend for a supporting actor nomination.

Prepare to tune in as we watch the Oscar nominations unfold live shortly. Leonardo DiCaprio's politically charged thriller One Battle After Another stands out as a frontrunner, while vampire horror Sinners also garners attention, particularly with actress Wunmi Mosaku being one of the few UK stars in contention for an acting nomination.

Irish talents Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal are anticipated to receive recognition for their roles in the screen adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's novel, Hamnet. Other films like Marty Supreme, Frankenstein, Sentimental Value, Bugonia, and The Secret Agent are also expected to make a significant impact when the nominations are revealed starting at 13:30 GMT.

This year's Academy Awards ceremony will once again be hosted by US comedian Conan O'Brien, scheduled for March 15th.
