“Red Sox have been in touch with Eugenio Suárez but sources indicate their interest in him has been lukewarm to this point,” wrote Red Sox insider Chris Cotillo on X. The note also hints that the team’s approach could be tied to pursuing Bregman, suggesting a broader strategy rather than an immediate signing.
Last season, Suárez split time between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners, finishing with a .228 batting average along with 49 home runs and 118 RBIs. He would likely slot in at third base, providing power but contributing to the team’s goal of increasing balls in play.
However, Boston’s overt curiosity seems more pronounced toward a reunion with Alex Bregman than toward Suárez. Regardless, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow emphasized at the Winter Meetings that there are several needs to address, including adding a potent bat to the lineup.
“We came in looking to address some specific needs that I’ve talked about,” Breslow said, per MLB.com. “As we get ready to leave here, those needs still exist, so we’ve got to figure out a way to fill them.”
