College News – February 13th, 2026: A Year of Academic Excellence and Community Spirit
The Academic Pinnacle:
Today, we celebrate the pinnacle of academic achievement as we honor the Class of '25 at the Dux Assembly. These Old Collegians, along with their families, returned to witness the recognition of their remarkable accomplishments. The Rostrevor academic staff proudly acknowledge the exceptional results, with every student reaching their personal best. The Class of '25 has set a new standard, and we salute the teachers, tutors, and leadership who guided these boys to success.
Controversy in Numbers: But here's where it gets controversial—the ATAR scores. With 23% of the class achieving an ATAR of 90 or above, the question arises: Is this a fair representation of their abilities? 17 students received Merits, and 73 attained A+ grades. Congratulations are in order, but should we be rethinking our assessment methods?
Passing the Torch: The assembly also witnessed the Passing of the Colours, a Rostrevor tradition. Outgoing Prefects handed over the College flag to two Reception students, who then presented it to the incoming Prefects. A symbolic gesture, indeed!
A Latin Legacy: Tredecim Annis, a Latin term meaning 'thirteen years,' recognizes students who've been with Rostrevor since Reception. This year's recipients, including Christian Disciscio and Finn McNamara, were celebrated at the Dux Assembly. Their families' dedication to the College is truly commendable.
Spiritual Reflections:
The Junior School Liturgy emphasized prayer and the Word of God, while the Boarding House Mass celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. Father Mathew Newman's presence enriched the Mass and provided students with a deeper understanding of Catholic traditions.
A 'Crikey' Night: Duggan House's formal dinner had a unique twist with a 'Crikey' theme, honoring Robert Irwin. Year 7's Jackson Coppock impressed with his costume, and the boys later wrestled like crocodiles!
Informative Evenings:
The Senior School Parent Information Evening provided valuable insights for caregivers. Meanwhile, the Parent Welcome Drinks on March 12th offer a laid-back opportunity for Rostrevor parents to connect.
Capturing Memories: The Development Office captures school life through photos, available on social media. Parents can request original copies, ensuring these memories last a lifetime.
Co-curricular Triumphs:
The gloomy weather couldn't dampen the Senior School Swimming Carnival's spirit, with Barron and Gurr taking home trophies. The First XI Cricket team's victory against Pembroke was captured in stunning photos, and the Tennis teams' determination shone against Blackfriars Priory School.
